Safety & Terms of Service

We're committed to creating a safe, respectful community. Here's how we protect users and outline the terms of using Internote.

Respectful Community

Be kind and respectful to other users. Harassment, hate speech, and abusive behaviour are not tolerated and will result in account suspension or termination.

Content Standards

We moderate content to remove illegal material, spam, and abusive content. Users who violate content standards may lose access to sharing and discovery features.

Report & Control

You can report harmful content and block users directly. We investigate reports promptly and take appropriate action to keep the community safe.

Your Safety Matters

Never share passwords, personal information, or financial details on Internote. We will never ask for this information. Use strong passwords and enable security features.

Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account and using Internote, you accept and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our service. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time, and your continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Account Eligibility & Registration

You must be at least 13 years old to use Internote. By registering, you certify that all information you provide is accurate and truthful. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account.

Permitted Use

You may use Internote to:

• Create, edit, and organise internotes and learning maps for personal education

• Share your internotes and maps with other users with your chosen permission level (view or edit)

• Like, bookmark, and complete internotes and maps to track your engagement

• Upload images and files (up to 2MB) to illustrate your learning materials

• Discover and engage with public content from the community

Prohibited Behaviour

You agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, abuse, or bully other users or creators

• Post content that is illegal, defamatory, hateful, or violates others' rights

• Upload malware, viruses, or any malicious code

• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems, or data

• Engage in spam, fake engagement, automated scraping, or bot activity

• Impersonate another user or misrepresent your identity

• Copy or plagiarise others' internotes without attribution or permission

• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract data from our platform

User Content & Ownership

You retain all rights to content you create on Internote. By uploading or publishing internotes, maps, or files, you grant Internote a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, display, and distribute your content according to your chosen visibility settings. If you mark content as public, you understand it may be discovered, shared, and engaged with by anyone on the internet. You warrant that you own all content you post and have the right to grant these licences.

Sharing & Permissions

When you share internotes or maps directly with other users, you grant them the permission level you specified (view or edit). Users with edit permission can modify your content. You may revoke sharing permissions at any time, which immediately ends their access. Sharing does not transfer ownership of your content. You are responsible for the consequences of sharing sensitive or private information.

Content Moderation & Removal

We actively moderate content to maintain a safe, respectful community. We may remove, restrict, or flag content that violates these terms without prior notice. This includes illegal material, hate speech, harassment, spam, and infringing content. Users who repeatedly violate content policies may lose access to public sharing and discovery features, or face account suspension.

Intellectual Property Rights

Internote, including all platform code, design, trademarks, and features, is the exclusive intellectual property of Internote. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse-engineer any part of the platform. User content remains your property. By using Internote, you agree not to infringe on anyone else's intellectual property rights, including copyright, trademark, and patent rights.

Data & Backups

Internote stores your internotes, maps, files, and engagement data on secure servers. We use industry-standard encryption and access controls to protect your data. However, we are not liable for data loss due to user error, service interruptions, or unforeseen circumstances. We recommend regularly backing up important content. Upon account deletion, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days, but public content may remain in archives if others have saved it.

Service Availability & Changes

We strive to keep Internote available 24/7, but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may perform maintenance, update features, or introduce new functionality without advance notice. We may also discontinue features or the service itself with reasonable notice. We are not liable for any data loss or service interruptions caused by technical issues, maintenance, or force majeure events.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Internote and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. This includes loss of data, lost profits, or reputational harm. Your sole remedy for any issue is to discontinue use of the service.

Account Suspension & Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, engage in abusive behaviour, pose a safety risk to the community, or use the service for illegal purposes. Suspension is temporary; termination is permanent. Upon termination, all your data will be deleted within 30 days, and you will lose access to any shared content.

Third-Party Links & Services

Internote may link to third-party services or content. We do not control or endorse external services, and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or behaviour. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and conditions. We recommend reviewing their policies before sharing personal information.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date below and, if required, by sending you an email. Your continued use of Internote following changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. If you disagree with changes, you may discontinue use of the service.
